Germination Station

Spring is in the air and I've been itching to see pops of color outside!
But I know that in WNC its not quite time to be planting things outside, for fear of at least one more frost.

A few weeks ago, I purchased flower bulbs (because the side of the box said I could still plant them this spring for summer blooms) of Dahlias, Gladiolus, Peruvian Daffodils and Blazing Stars.

It didn't stop there.  I decided to try and grow my own seedlings *Gasp!*
I know, it shocked me too.
I purchased seed packs of Delphiniums, Lupine, Foxglove and Achillea.

I had no idea what I was doing...but luckily for me, the Jiffy box I found in the garden center at Walmart gave me the directions I needed.
I followed the directions as it stated, so I'm just hoping and praying I see positive results!
I'll definitely keep you updated on this process.
One of the instructions stated that after the seeds were planted to put them in a warm area for a few days.
Off to the guest bedroom these little babies went...its warm in there.
Perfect for gestation.

I've checked each day to see if there's any progress....nada.
I'm hoping its only because I've not given it enough time as its only been a couple days.
Only time shall tell.

Below is my new thrifted chest that I found at Goodwill the other day.
I'm biting the bit to give it a face lift.
The color options are running rampant through my mind.
However, it is a post for another day.

The purpose of the photo is not for the awesomeness of the chest,
but that it is the home of my seed pots which are hopefully germinating.
(see them sitting on top?)
I like to call it "The Germination Station"

Tip du Jour

Tip #4

I know that we're about 4 days into spring and the chance of snow is pretty much over...but it could happen.
This is more of a tip for the next big snowfall.
This is my tip:

When you decide to go sledding after the snow has frozen over
and you chose to use an old, rusty, vintage Coco-Cola sign
*think Clark Griswold on Christmas Vacation minus the greasing action*

And you can't get stopped and you're afraid to bail because of the rusty edges and
all you can think about is getting tetanus.

Yep, this is what your face will look like as well.

Do not be like me and let fate lead you wherever it decides.
Take it from me BAIL, JUMP, whatever you need to do.
Otherwise, your fate will be like mine and lead you straight into the side of the....

...and you will crumple like Vince & Larry the Crash Dummies as you plow into the house
bruising your body, head to toe.

Again, just bail!
(If you would like to read about my unfortunate sledding event, see this post.)

Schmaltzy Sunday

I am one of the luckiest girls in this world.
Why, you ask?
Because I have not just one, but TWO women that I call Moma.
My first (and biological) Moma is Nancy Janson Holland, she passed away due to complications with childbirth after my sister was born in 1984.
My second Moma, Edith Holland, has been my Moma since 1987.

For as far back as I can remember, Moma has been a part of my life.
I've not known remembered any different
and I've always called her Moma to my knowledge.
(I know she will say otherwise, but I don't remember calling anything else.)

Moma comes from a sweet little family that grew up within city limits.
So when Daddy and Moma married in June 1987, we moved to town!
*Yippee*

At the time, Mom had two grown children from a previous marriage,
both had moved out and were married.
Moma worked as the director of a county program.
But when three snotty children ages 2, 5 and 8 come in,
she willingly left her position and became a stay-at-home mom.

Then by September 1987, she and my dad took in and began raising her 3 month old granddaughter.
This little baby girl is now who I call my sister, Alisha.

Within a matter of months, we had gone from a family of 4,
to a family of 7 when they were married,
to a family of 8!
A little bit from Daddy and a little bit from Moma!
We were the Brady Bunch and we loved it that way!
Since Lee and Beth were grown, it was just the 6 of us living at home....in town.

Over the last (almost) 24 years, Moma has helped my Dad to mold me into the woman that I am today.
*que tissues*
This lady has been the best role model that a girl could ever ask for.
She's taught me how to be responsible,
how to make the bed,
how to sort laundry (this always seemed to be an issue),
how to properly set the table,
how to wash dishes (greasy pots and pans go last!)
how to vaccum,
how to cook and bake (don't worry mom, I know how ot make doo-up appropirately)
how to fold bath towels in a tri-fold (there is a precise way to do it and I plan to teach my kids this one day too!)
how to be a giver of myself and of my soul,
how to weed the flower bed (which I still despise),
and most importantly: how to be a Godly Christan Woman.

There are so many things that I take away from growing up under her watch, care and guidance.
If I can be a woman with such faith, character, and love as she has all bundled up within her little self,
then I know I will be just fine when it comes to my future family.
She is a great partner to my Daddy and they just fit together.
She is a servant with a willing heart and ready to go wherever the Lord leads her and my Dad.
She's the complete package.

Thank you for loving me and being my Moma.
You had a choice and you chose to accept not only the handsome man (that is my daddy)
but to accept his three snotty nosed children
and to raise them as your own.
Thank you for not running to the hills to get away from us. :)
Thank you for not being the dreaded "red-headed stepmother."
(even if you did bop me in the head with a breadpan once
and made me put my nose against the wall....I know I deserved it at the time.)

As I've said many times, any woman can be a mother....but it takes one of a kind to be a Moma.
I LOVE YOU MOMA!

I know I've not even begun to touch the tip of the iceburg that is your life and what you mean to me.  But I hope that this has given you an idea.
Words can never express how PROUD I am
to be your DAUGHTER!

Happy Birthday Mom!

You've always taught me to be a hard worker.  Moma & Lucas hauling wood.

Back on Track

My apologies for my lack of posting, as far as things that relate to my normal posting schedule.
The first week in March things were completely and utterly chaos to say the least.
It took me a week to recoup from everything.
This week I've been trying to pick it back up, slowly but surely.

I will definitely be back this weekend with Skidumpdump Saturday and Schmaltzy Sunday.

I've also got a couple of posts to make with regards to My Dearests birthday as well as a post about a some cookies.

Stay tuned and I'll be back to my regular programming soon!

Tip du Jour

Tip #3

When you see this light up in your car instrument panel

Get some of this immediately!

I've only ran out of gas one time.
It was when I was in college.
It was late and I had a lot of studying to do and papers to write.
Running out of gas only put a damper on my evening.

Knock, Knock
*Knock on wood*
It won't happen again!

Word to the Wise:
Get gas as soon as the low fuel light comes on
OR
Be proactive and don't allow the light to come on at all!

Help!

I need help in choosing a necklace to wear with my Easter Dress.
Well for that matter,
I guess I need help in choosing which dress to wear as
my Easter Dress!

Dress #1
(This is the initial dress, which is really cute and has a little more "class")

Dress #2
(This was just a 'purchase' because of the cheapo price, but it is super cute but casual.)

Necklace #1
(Humanité Brittney Neutral Necklace - shades of blue, green and grey)

Necklace #2
(Humanité Jill Multi Necklace - yellow, coral, orange, purple and turquoise)

Necklace #3
(Allora Handmade Modern Pearl Rosette Statement Necklace - with this necklace I can choose from several different colors)

Necklace #4
(Funky Vintage Kitchen Mum or Rose Necklaces, various colors)

I need your opinion!

Which dress should I wear for Easter?

Which necklace should I wear with said dress?

Skidumpdump Saturday

Today, I treated myself to some new exciting pretties.
I cannot tell you how excited I am and I cannot wait until they arrive!
*I'm giddy*
